Topeka’s top artists, writers and art patrons of 2016 were announced Saturday night at the sixth annual Arty Awards in The Topeka Capital-Journal building downtown.
“The arts are a big feather in Topeka’s cap, and tonight we gather to recognize that,” said Sarah Fizell, executive director of ARTSConnect.
The performing arts award went to Martinez Hillard, a local hip-hop and indie recording artist who performs both solo and with the group Ebony Tusks. His music often touches on issues of social justice.
